Primrose Lane Primary School is set in extensive and beautiful grounds close to the centre of Boston Spa, an attractive village located in a rural setting on the outskirts of the City of Leeds. The village came to prominence when it developed as a spa town and many of the older buildings, which give it its character, are of Georgian design. The High Street is a busy thoroughfare with a variety of shops and restaurants. There is a range of local employment opportunities and residents commute to work in Leeds and, via the A1, to North and South Yorkshire.
Primrose Lane Primary is a community primary school of about two hundred children, with an additional fifty-two children in the nursery class. The school prides itself on its positive attitude to pupils and their families, the caring relationships and happy atmosphere within school and the high standards we seek to achieve in all areas of the curriculum. We work hard to help all children achieve their potential within a happy, caring environment.
Although the school celebrates its success in achieving high standards in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, we are committed to education in the widest sense of the word. We provide a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum and we understand that children bring many interests and talents to school that we feel it is important to recognise and nurture.
Great emphasis is placed on the provision of musical education and within school there are opportunities for children to learn to play the recorder, woodwind, brass, drums and percussion instruments, play in the band, sing in the choir and appear in musical productions. We have recently installed a kiln to extend our 3D artwork. Our environmental work has been given a boost by the development of the wildlife garden, nature trail and cultivated gardens. There are also opportunities to participate in a range of physical education activities, in addition to normal class activities, including gymnastics, dance, football and cricket. We have recently equipped all classes with permanently fixed interactive whiteboards. Every effort is made to give the children first hand educational experiences, from inviting visitors to school, working in the school’s grounds, undertaking educational visits to the Year 6 residential to Kingswood in Hexham.
The school’s web site contains much information about the school and its curriculum. If you are reading this prospectus with a view to bringing your child to Primrose Lane Primary School, you are most welcome to come and visit us and I will be pleased to show you around. If you are the parent of a child already in school, I hope that you find the prospectus useful and interesting and I look forward to seeing you at one of the many events organised by the school or PTA.
