Welcome to Year Two's Page
We are enthusiastic and investigative learners in Year 2! We are continuing to build up our independent learning skills and love discovering new facts and trying out challenges. As a class we enjoy working and playing together, getting lots of stickers and climbing up the well done board!
Year 2 Key Information

Welcome to Year 2! Please find some documents below to inform you about the expectations for the end of Year 2 as well as information about spellings for the start of the year.

Newsletters

Year 2's half termly newsletters detailing what we're learning about in Year 2!

Rainbows

Year 2 have been learning a song called Rainbows and we have perfected the glockenspiel part! Enjoy...

Kung Hei Fat Choy!

In Golden Time, Zoe and some of her friends dressed up in special clothes to celebrate Chinese New Year.  It's the year of the tiger.  Thank you, Zoe for bringing in these beautiful garments - they are stunning!

Our Recorder World Premier...

Year 2 had their first ever recorder lesson this morning and, due to super listening and concentration, they can already play 2 pieces! We wanted to share our music-making with you all. The pieces are called Little Fly and No More Milk. Enjoy!

Skipping Festival

Along with the rest of school, Year 2 enjoyed taking part in a skipping workshop! We had a go at running under the big skipping rope before trying some jumps over the big skipping rope. We were really good at this and supported each other by cheering people on. We rounded off the session by showing off our individual skipping skills.
This is what some of Year 2 had to say...
'I did my best to jump with a big rope.'- Luke
'I liked the game where we took turns.'- Lucy
'I liked running through the bug rope.'- Lillie
'I felt nervous at first and then I did it!'- Evan

Music

Year 2 have been enjoying their weekly music session with Mrs Dockree! We have been learning all about pitch and rhythm, moving in time with the music and clapping out beats. We really enjoyed getting out the xylophones and tapping out some rhythms along with the music.

English

We've been working hard in English, focusing on our topic 'The Great Fire of London'. This week we've been thinking about diaries. We've spent some time looking at Samuel Pepys' diary and had a go at role play- pretending to be Thomas the baker who accidentally started the fire on Pudding Lane. This role play helped us to write our own diary entries as Thomas the baker. We worked hard to produce a really good quality piece of writing and were proud of the end results. Well done Year 2!

Science

This half term our science focus is on living things and habitats. We took our learning outside into our lovely school grounds to look for microhabitats! We talked about different microhabitats we could find within the school grounds and then spent some time searching under logs, in the bushes and looking carefully at the trees to see what plants and animals we could find. We found lots of things including spiders, woodlice, birds and even a squirrel!

Maths

In maths we've been doing lots of learning all about place value within 100. We are very good at counting in tens and ones! On Wednesday we played a place value game which was lots of fun.

Great Fire of London!

Year 2 have really been enjoying finding out all about our history topic this half term- The Great Fire of London! We have done some drama and used super adjectives to describe the fire. We have also enjoyed finding out about Samuel Pepys and what a historical source is.
The link below is a really fun game we enjoyed playing which taught us about historical sources-

Settling in to Year 2!

What a busy start to the Year! In Year 2 we have been having lots of fun getting used to our new classroom and finding out all about being in Year 2. We have been learning about place value in maths and have been getting back into the swing of writing by doing some 'all about me' work. We've also been doing some fantastic reading and have enjoyed starting our new class reader- 'The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse'. To round of the week, we enjoyed some Friday Golden Time and our first achievement assembly back in the hall with Year 1. Well done for a super start to Year 2!
