Our school

Primrose Lane Primary School is set in extensive and beautiful grounds close to the centre of Boston Spa, an attractive village located in a rural setting on the outskirts of the City of Leeds. The village came to prominence when it developed as a spa town and many of the older buildings, which give it its character, are of Georgian design. The High Street is a busy thoroughfare with a variety of shops and restaurants. There is a range of local employment opportunities and residents commute to work in Leeds and, via the A1, to North and South Yorkshire.

Primrose Lane Primary is a community primary school of over two hundred children, aged from 3 – 11. The school prides itself on its positive attitude to pupils and their families, the caring relationships and happy atmosphere within school and the high standards we seek to achieve in all areas of the curriculum. We work hard to help all children achieve their potential within a happy, caring environment.

Primrose Lane is a well resourced school. The accommodation has undergone extensive refurbishment over recent years and this has had a positive impact in creating a quality learning environment for pupils and staff. Outside we have ample playgrounds and two adventure playgrounds. These, along with three fields and an environmental area, are surrounded by shrubs and trees and enclosed with fencing to make the Primrose Lane site a safe, interesting and varied environment for children to learn and play.

Although the school celebrates its success in achieving high standards in the core subjects of English and Mathematics, we are committed to education in the widest sense of the word. We provide a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum and we understand that children bring many interests and talents to school that we feel it is important to recognise and nurture. We are a ‘learning focused school’ and Primrose Lane Learner is a phrase we’ve introduced and developed so that it is shared and understood by all the staff and pupils in our school. It provides us with a common language of learning and describes the learners that we want to nurture at Primrose Lane. We believe effective learners draw upon six key learning skills to support them and we use the motto ‘WE CARE’ about learning to help everyone remember them: Working together, Enthusiasm, Creativity, Ambition, Reflection and Enquiring.

Great emphasis is placed on the provision of musical education and within school there are opportunities for children to learn to play a variety of instruments, play in the band, sing in the choir and appear in musical productions. There are also opportunities for children to participate in a range of sport activities, in addition to normal PE class activities, including athletics, dance, football and netball. Every effort is made to enrich the curriculum and provide the children with first hand educational experiences; from inviting visitors into school, to working in the school grounds and the local area, to undertaking a variety of educational visits including the Year 6 residential to Lineham Farm.

At Primrose Lane we are passionate about learning and it is this love of learning that we strive to nurture in our pupils.
