Welcome to the Year Two class page.
Orienteering

Year Two really enjoyed their orienteering session with Simon! They listened carefully and displayed great skills, quickly learning to read maps and use the dibber to track their route!

Elvington Air Muesum Trip

On Thursday 16th March, KS1 had a fantastic day out at Elvington Air Museum as part of their learning all about the history of flight. The children were well behaved and very respectful towards the museum guides. They enjoyed workshops on how flight has evolved over the years, made their own helicopters, explored the inside of an aircraft, saw a replica of the Wright Brother’s ‘Flyer’ and so much more!

We’d like to say a big thank you to Mrs Dockree for organising a wonderful and informative day out for us all and thank you to the parents who came with us too, the trip would not have been possible without you - an extra special thank you to Jasper and Bee’s mum, Hannah’s mum and Emme’s mum who all drove themselves (and some of the other parents) to the museum when the coach company had sent the wrong sized coach! Thankfully, a replacement coach was sent for our return journey and the parents could enjoy a peaceful car journey home!

Spring is here!

Y2 went for a walk around the school grounds to look for signs of Spring. We discussed the changes in the plants and the wildlife and we were also inspired to write some Spring Poetry!

Recorder Playing in Year 2!

In Year 2 we have been learning the recorder. These videos are from our third week. The children have learned the notes A, and B and know the difference between crotchets and quavers. They even performed in our 'Live Music' session after only two lessons! Their concentration is really wonderful; learning to read music and play an instrument is no mean feat! I'm so proud of them all. Enjoy watching these two pieces. HC

Watch out Sir David Attenborough!

The children worked hard to collect research on a polar animal, using the internet, books and fact sheets.
They went on to write a report on their chosen animal and then presented their findings to the class.
The reports were very informative and we definitely had some budding nature presenters amongst us!

Polar Regions

Across Key Stage 1 we have started to look at Polar Regions. We began by sharing the knowledge we already had about and then used atlases to find out more. The children remembered so many facts that they learned throughout the session and were very enthusiastic. We can't wait to find out more!

Our Senses

As part of our learning in science, we explored our five senses. We had lots of fun exploring taste!

Away In A Manger!

Year Two put on an amazing performance of their nativity, Away In A Manger! They stepped up to their roles with enthusiasm and all shone in their own ways. Well done Year Two!

Our Survey

We conducted a survey to find out favourite activities in Boston Spa. We started by asking everybody in the class what their favourite activity was – but this gave us a very long list! So we narrowed it down and recorded our findings on a tally chart. The children quickly picked up how the tally chart worked and were able to analyse our data. The most popular activity was the pub! The least popular activities were the park and the river.

Our local walk

We have been learning about human and physical geography. We had a look on Google Earth to see the features along the coastline such as footpaths, steps, and cliffs. We also thought about other features we’ve seen in the world around us such as houses, rivers and trees.

We went for a walk around our school grounds to see what human and physical geography we could find. Straight away, the children spotted that the maze, the trim trail and the basketball hoop were human features, along with the markings on the playground and the steps. They thought that the trees were physical features. We discussed that some of the trees had been there a very long time - before the school was built - and that some of the fruit trees were recently planted to create an orchard and therefore were a physical feature.

We questioned whether most things in our school grounds were human geography as they were put there by people to create the whole school environment.

To extend our learning further, this week, we have been on a walk around our local area. We set off from school on Thursday afternoon and walked along the High Street and back to school along the river. We were able to identify lots of human features in our local area such as shops, houses and St Mary’s Church and we enjoyed exploring the physical features too, including exploring the sights and sounds of the River Wharfe.

Year Two

This week we have been busy learning the rules and routines of Year Two. We have spent time thinking about how we show we are ready, respectful and safe in our classroom and around school. We have also been exploring our wonderful grounds. We have spent some time observing what is happening to the trees and are excited to see what differences we will see in the coming months!
