Forest School at Primrose Lane: Growing Minds and Hearts in Nature

At Primrose Lane, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Our Forest School curriculum led by Mrs McConnell offers pupils a unique opportunity to explore, discover, and learn in the natural environment which are at the heart of our school. This approach supports our vision of making learning meaningful and memorable, nurturing enquiring minds, and fostering resilience and independence.

What is Forest School?

Forest School is an innovative educational approach that uses the outdoors to encourage children’s holistic development. It is child-centred, allowing pupils to learn at their own pace through hands-on experiences, play, and exploration. Our Forest School sessions are carefully planned to promote safety, curiosity, and respect for the natural world.

Benefits for Our Pupils

  • Enhances Wellbeing and Confidence: Being outdoors in nature has a calming effect and supports children’s mental health. Pupils develop confidence as they take manageable risks, solve problems, and overcome challenges in a supportive environment.

  • Develops Social Skills and Teamwork: Forest School encourages collaboration and communication. Pupils learn to listen, share, and work together, strengthening friendships and building a positive school community rooted in kindness.

  • Fosters Ambition and Independence: Children are empowered to make choices, set goals, and persevere with tasks. This nurtures a ‘can do’ attitude, helping pupils become ambitious learners who believe in their abilities.

  • Supports Physical Development: Activities such as climbing, balancing, and digging improve coordination, strength, and fine motor skills, contributing to overall health and fitness.

  • Deepens Understanding of the Environment: Pupils develop a sense of responsibility and respect for nature. They learn about plants, animals, and ecosystems, connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences.

At Primrose Lane, our Forest School is more than just outdoor play; it is a vital part of our commitment to providing a rich variety of opportunities that inspire pupils to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

We are proud to offer this enriching experience supporting our pupils grow not only as learners but as compassionate, confident individuals ready to contribute positively to society.
